Living in Madrid with ESS

Who looks after your child?

The hours that are neither training nor class are organised too. This is what a parent asks about first, and what decides whether they send their child abroad at all.

Who is with you, and how often

Dual-career advice is led by the academic director, and every student-athlete has a personal tutor from the Athlete Experience team: their daily point of reference for routines, paperwork, settling in and communication with the family.

  1. Around the clock

    • Security

      Round-the-clock security and controlled access

    • Mentors

Residential mentors who live alongside the students

    • The family

A channel open 24 hours a day for anything that cannot wait for the report

  2. Every day

    • ESS Tutor

In touch almost every day, at all three levels

  3. Every term

    • Report to the family

Academic progress, sporting development and how they are settling in

Accommodation

We assign the residence, on a clear basis: distance to the training centre and the student's age. A fifteen-year-old does not live where a twenty-one-year-old lives, and half an hour less commuting a day adds up to a hundred hours a year. If there is a specific reason to prefer another residence, it is considered among the available options.

  • Weekly cleaning included

  • Study rooms in the residence itself

  • Gym in the residence

Transport

A transport plan designed around the student's own timetable, not a fixed route. The ESS Tutor coordinates it with the operations team, and whoever travels with the students is part of their day-to-day: they know their routine and how they are organised, not just the journey.
